Sold to the public as the tool that would spur economic growth and put people back to work, the $787 billion stimulus plan was all about redistribution of wealth, taking from those who create and giving to those who do not. And although it neither spurred economic growth nor created jobs, to progressives it simply was not large enough. So, now Obama wants to redistribute another $447 billion, as he explained in his speech last night.

Just like so many of his previous actions, the President’s speech was unprecedented in that never before has an American President asked for such venue to sell what he labeled as a jobs program. Here-to-fore, joint-sessions of Congress have been reserved for high-level occasions such as visiting heads of state and State of the Union addresses. But our President makes his own rules and couldn’t care less about breaking long held traditions so long as he believes they will serve his political advantage.

And that is what the President’s speech was all about last night. But astonishingly, he gave few details of his plan except to say it would be fully funded by additional taxes on the rich and closing corporate tax loop-holds. Of course, what he meant was that those who produce must give up more to those who do not. In other words, he wants to redistribute another $447 billion of your hard-earned cash.

Obama says he wants to create new jobs and spoke of upgrading the infrastructure and sending funds to states for the repair of schools and paying teachers’ salaries. Just as he did with the $787 billion stimulus, he claims that spending tax dollars on public projects and government employee salaries stimulates economic growth. But nothing could be further from the truth.

First of all, all public works projects are short-term, and once completed those employed are once again out of work. And funding public service employees is merely a drain on funds. Both take money from one segment of society and give it to another segment. And that’s nothing less than Socialism, or to put it another way, redistribution of wealth.

Then Obama says that if small business owners will hire new employees or raise present employee salaries, they will be given a tax cut. Based upon that statement, it’s obvious neither he nor those advising him have a clue as to how small businesses function. Having first-hand knowledge of this subject, I can assure you that few if any small business will find any such plan attractive.

A business owner will bring on a new employee or raise salaries only when business growth and revenue justifies it. For instance, if sales and profits are up and still growing, then increasing salaries and or hiring additional staff may make sense. On the other hand, if profits are flat or in decline, then raising salaries or hiring additional staff could spell financial disaster for the business.

What non-business owners do not understand, that is, the Obama Administration, is that business profit has to improve before increased staffing or salaries can take place, not the other way around. No business owner would dare hire an additional employee under the assumption that by doing so profits will increase. Yet, that seems to be the implication in the President’s so-called jobs plan.

But, if the President’s plan will not grow the economy, what will? Two things: reduced regulations and permanent lower corporate taxes.

By removing onerous regulations and red tape, business owners can spend more time working the business and less time filling out worthless but intrusive government forms. And permanent lower taxes will not only give the business owner more funds for expansion but also for increasing staff and paying higher salaries. And when a business grows, it pays more in taxes.

Therefore, lower corporate taxes are good for both business and government. The business benefits because it has more investment capital and the government benefits because it receives more tax revenue. If only the present Administration understood this principal, maybe Obama would stop pushing a plan to redistribute another $447 billion.

However, could his only goal be to redistribute wealth? Could that be what he meant when he campaigned that if he was elected he would transform this nation?
